    International Organizations

    The International Relations (IR) Division of the Ministry has been continuously engaging with Department of Economics Affairs (DEA), Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Indian Missions located in various countries, Embassies of various countries located in India, multilateral international organizations etc for promoting international Cooperation in Research, Design, Development & Deployment of technologies in the field of New & Renewable Energy.

    MNRE has signed MoUs / Agreements with different countries / organizations in the field of New and Renewable Energy. Under signed MoUs, Joint Working Groups (JWGs) have been set up for identification, selection and formulation of joint activities for implementation. MNRE is also collaborating with multilateral organisations and international Institutions for providing technical assistance to renewable energy projects. The Ministry is also facilitating specialized training programmes for officials from various countries under the ITEC programme of Government of India in the fields Renewable Energy through institutes, viz., National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), Gurgaon, National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE), Chennai.

    India is actively advocating the utilization of RE for Energy Transition and meeting various Sustainable Development Goals. India has been declared as one of the ‘Global Champion’ under the theme of “Energy transition” of the United Nations High Level Dialogue on Energy, scheduled to be held on September, 2021.

    International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)

    The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an intergovernmental organisation that supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future, and serves as the principal platform for international cooperation, a centre of excellence, and a repository of policy, technology, resource and financial knowledge on renewable energy. IRENA promotes the widespread adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy, including bioenergy, geothermal, hydropower, ocean, solar and wind energy in the pursuit of sustainable development, energy access, energy security and low-carbon economic growth and prosperity. India is the 77th Founding Member of IRENA.

    The 11th session of the IRENA General Assembly was held virtually from 18th to 21st January, 2021 at Abu Dhabi. The Indian delegation led by Hon’ble Minister of State (IC) for Power & NRE, Secretary and Joint Secretary (IR) from MNRE have participated in the event. India was designated as one of the Vice Presidents for the 11th session of the Assembly of IRENA 2021.
