(Small Wind Energy & Hybrid Systems)

Small wind energy systems viz. water pumping windmills, aerogenerators and wind-solar hybrid systems are useful for meeting water pumping and small power requirements in rural/ semi urban/ urban windy areas of the country. Small Wind Energy & Hybrid Systems programme 2005-06 continued during 2007-08 (link to AA) is implemented through State Nodal Agencies.

Individuals, farmers, NGOs, Central / State Government agencies, local bodies and Panchayats, Autonomous Institutions, Research Organizations, Cooperative Societies, Corporate Bodies, Small Business Establishments, Banks, etc.

v Cost of the systems
o Cost of wind-solar hybrid systems is approximately is Rs.2.50 lakhs per kW.
The Ministry provides (link to Annexure-II of AA) up to 50% of the ex-works cost of water pumping windmills, (except for un-electrified inlands for which up to 90% of the ex-works cost) and 50 to 75% of the cost of hybrid system.
v Achievements
A cumulative capacity of 608 kW of wind-solar hybrid systems and 1180 water pumping windmills has been installed.

v Manufacturering base
There are 13 manufacturers each of aerogenerators/water pumping windmills (link to Annexure-IV and V).
